Chiefs-Bills Highlight NFL Week 9 Tips, Totals, Teasers and Trends

Public bettors have a full belly and bigger bankroll after beating the leading online sportsbooks in NFL Week 8 action. Favorites went 11-2 SU and ATS and favorites to over the total parlays cashed in with game totals going no worse than 9-4 over/under and better depending on when bets were placed at leading online sportsbooks. Scoring averaged a season high 49.8 points per game in Week 8, and bookmakers have adjusted the totals upward for Week 9. 

Record Week for Betting Favorites

The 11-2 ATS mark was the best win percentage for favorites in a single week since 1985. All 11 favorites covered by 7 or more points as well - the most in a single week in 33 years. 
You may recall the record run by favorites starting in Week 11 last season, and sportsbooks are shading the favorites and totals with five more favorites of at least 7 points in Week 9 with an average spread of nearly -6. Baltimore (-7.5) still kept the favorites streak going with a 28-6 road win at Miami to kick off Week 9 Thursday night.

We'll use some of our rushing stats and strategies to guide us again this week despite the Falcons letting us down badly as our only Week 8 spread pick (2 opinion winners). All the edges in the trenches and running game lined up for Atlanta, but it was Miami who had the rushing dominance of 145-41 yards in the Dolphins 34-10 road win. That followed a 3-0 sweep on our NFL Week 7 picks and 1-0 picks in Week 6 with two other opinion winners. 

The totals have been better with the Week 8 game totals 2-0, and team totals 1-1, which followed a Week 7 totals winner in the Jets 13-6 defeat to the Panthers. The Jets go from another dismal week 7 offensive performance to a balanced 500+ yards offense and 39-38 come-from-behind win at Cincinnati as the only winner of Week 8 not decided by double-digits. Go figure.

Game Totals 

Broncos-Texans - Under

The Texans (14.7) lead the league in scoring defense and yards per game (267) defense, and the Broncos (18.9 ppg, 281 ypg) are top 5. Add in 4.8 and 4.6 yards per play top 5 defenses and you have a real chess match between Broncos head coach and play caller Sean Payton and Texans HC and defensive specialist DeMeco Ryans. 

Chiefs-Bills - Over

A high total but more tips, totals and trends point to another shootout with the last three meetings between these two teams with All-Pro and MVP favorite QB's averaging 54.7 points per game. The Bills have won the last four regular season matchups, but the Chiefs have won four straight playoff games over the Bills and QB Josh Allen. After starting the season 0-2, the Chiefs are on a 5-1 SU/ATS run averaging 415 yards and 31 points per game over their last five contests. The Bills are looking to extend their run as home 'Dog to 4-0 SU/ATS most recently, and Buffalo fits a number of scoring trends from the Playbook Totals Tipsheet. That includes 16-2 over/under since 2020 on teams that scored 40 or more points last game with the next game total 54 or less points.
