The Boise State Broncos and UNLV Rebels are vying for a first-round bye in the Mountain West Conference tournament, and they will meet on Wednesday night.

The UNLV Rebels could not have picked a better time to get hot. They have put together a nice little run and are in position to get a first-round bye in the Mountain West Conference tournament. But they probably have to win out and get some help. That's why Wednesday night's game against the Boise State Broncos is so critical.

The game is slated to begin at 11 PM ET at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. It's going to be televised on CBS Sports Network, and BetAnySports customers can watch the game and place wagers on it at the same time, using the facilities of Sports Betting Ultra.

Boise State is 11-6 in conference play, and this is their regular season finale. Overall, they are 19-10 straight-up and a more-than-solid 18-10 against the spread. If they win this game they will clinch a spot in the Mountain West's top five, which would; assure them a first-round bye in the conference tournament, which will begin March 4 right in this same building. They could conceivably tie for second place in the league.

UNLV is 10-6 in the conference, and 10-7 ATS at home. They are not only still going after a bye in the tourney they will host, they also are trying to stay above the .500 mark. At the moment they are 15-14, both straight-up and against the number. For the sake of being in the running for, say, a CBI bid, they actually might be better off NOT getting the bye, with a chance to record a win over a lower-level team in the MWC tournament.

The Rebels, of course, are coming off their major upset on Saturday, as they beat previously undefeated San Diego State 66-63. In that game, they committed only eleven turnovers, and they held the Aztecs to just 29.6% from beyond the arc.

In the college basketball odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Rebels are short favorites:

UNLV Rebels -2.5
Boise State Broncos +2.5

Over 141.5 points -110
Under 141.5 points -110

And remember that you can beat the -110 with reduced juice at BetAnySports. Check it out!

Boise State has averaged 77 points a game over their last ten, and with one of the most experienced rosters in the nation, they can be expected to show more poise than most teams, and it's obviously important down the stretch.

The Broncos are not big on intimidating people in the lane (outside the top 300 in blocked shots), but they have been difficult to shoot against from the outside, allowing just 29.4%. They should work to force more of those shots, but UNLV isn't particularly dependent on them.

What UNLV does on its own defensive end is funnel the opponent to the outside, and that could work in favor of the Broncos. It certainly did in the first meeting, as Boise State went 8-of-19 from downtown in their 73-66 win. They also had the edge at the line (23 free throws made to 14). Let's see if they can once again do better than their 33.9% season-long accuracy rate.

Obviously UNLV has done better this season against San Diego State - ticketed for a possible spot as a top seed in the Big Dance - then Boise has. The Broncos lost by 18 and 17 points to the Aztecs. But in this situation, coming off the huge win may serve as a letdown for the Rebels. The mature Boise State squad has two legitimate outside threats (Derrick Alston and Justinian Jessup) and a splendid defensive rebounding force in RJ Williams (second in Defensive Rebounding Percentage, in fact).

So we are prepared to take any points available here.
