With major league players slamming the door shut on revenue sharing, the MLB owners hope they can make some adjustments and submit a proposal that includes some adjustments so they can play in 2020.

MLB is still trying to figure out how to get the season started

As other sports organizations grease the wheels in an effort to make things happen in the way of getting the 2020 season underway, Major League Baseball seems stuck in neutral.

And there isn't a lot of time to save it.

Is there?

BetAnySports customers who like to watch and wager on baseball will undoubtedly be very interested in what is to happen on Tuesday, when the owners will submit a revised proposal to players in an effort to come to an arrangement, after a variety of ideas had been kicked around.

In terms of the safety issues, it's either a matter of whether a player does or does not believe he is in danger. It is a foregone conclusion that any protocols the owners are going to out in place are going to be extensive - certainly offering risk management that isn't available to members of the general public.

But there's a more slanted point of view.

MLB chances of returning in 2020We have heard from Tampa Bay pitcher Blake Snell, who added a lot of drama to the festivities with the whole "risking my life" speech, which of course was tied to the amount of money he was going to be paid. In other words, he could be paid off to think differently.

And while we are on the subject of money, that's the real sticking point. The owners had put forth an 82-game schedule, which in effect constitute half a season. And instead of ten teams making it to the post-season, there would be fourteen.

The teams would have fifty players available - 30 who would be on the active roster at any given time, along with 20 more who could be available from a "taxi squad." The amateur draft is also reduced to five rounds, as the minor leagues continue to die a slow death.

But as part of this proposal, owners suddenly moved for a 50-50 split of revenues, rather than prorated salaries, which the Players Association had already agreed to.

And that is where things seem to have stopped, after people like Austin Hedges of the San Diego Padres, the team's player rep, had mentioned that "it really feels like we're getting some stuff done."

You see, the position of the players is that the owners had inherently acknowledged that fans would not be present at games when they offered the prorated salaries. The owners counter that by saying the players were aware that there would have to be a significant adjustment in a season without live audiences.

So it's sort of a "he said, he said" and there is evidence offered by both sides.

In the players' defense, the culture among MLB owners is that they simply do not reveal their books. And despite their claims that they would stand to lose over $600,000 per game, there may not be any real way for the Players Association to substantiate that.

BetAnySports patrons should remember that revenues can come from a number of different places, including the internet, data, development, programming through a regional sports networks (RSNs), and more. So which revenues would apply, and would the owners offer the players the opportunity to participate in more types of revenue? This may be a part of what comes with MLB's next proposal.

Then there is the subject of the precedent that the revenue share might set. What it amounts to, as the players put it, is a de facto "cap" on their pay, since the revenues will have been defined as a condition of an agreement. And if you understand that the Players Association is the most powerful union in sports, and perhaps more powerful than ANY union, you also must understand that it's that way for a reason. And that doesn't include taking a step backward.

Whether the BIGGEST step backward - the cancellation of a season - becomes a reality is something we should know early in the week.
