Insights and advice for betting MLB National League in July

The dog days of big league baseball continue into July past the halfway point of the 2025 season. The MLB National League teams are strong at the top with the big preseason favorite Dodgers sporting the best record in the NL and 52 wins, but the Cubs, Phillies, Mets and Brewers are all top division challengers who will hit 50 wins in the days ahead with the Padres, Giants and Cardinals all challenging and top Wild Card teams in a stacked National League.

More key games and schedules provided for National League teams in July with the MLB All-Star Game Tuesday, July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta. The MLB trade deadline is July 31 as teams continue to push towards the playoffs and National League Pennant. The Dogers (+500) and Cubs (+750) are the favorites to have MLB's most wins in July with the Phillies (+850) also a top contender. I like the Cardinals (+3350) more favorable schedule as longshots for success in July.

The Brewers closed the gap on the division leading Cubs with the best record in the NL during June. Milwaukee has won 4-in-a-row and 8-of-9 into their final game of the month Sunday at home vs. the Rockies. The Cardinals are in the division chase winning 9-of-12 into their final two road games to close the month. 

The Cubs (-250) are still the favorite to win the division with BetOnline shortening the Brewers (+400) odds with their strong month in June. The Cardinals (+550) are still chasing with the Reds (+1800) trying to stay in the Wild Card chase.

The Phillies and Mets are the clear leaders in the NL East, but both teams have losing records into the final two days of June. Philly (26-14) and New York (29-12) join the Dodgers (30-14) with best home records. The Marlins have won 6-straight games including five on the road as +140 'Dogs or greater into their final game of the month Sunday. The Nationals hit the skids hard in June while losing 8-straight games including three at home to the Rockies. 

The Phillies (-125) are now the favorite to win the NL East just ahead of the Mets (+105) with the Braves (+1600) just trying to get back to playing .500 baseball.

June records: LAD (16-10), SD (13-13), SF (13-12), AZ (14-10), COL (9-16) 

The Dodgers extended their NL West lead with only LA and the Diamondbacks playing better baseball in June. Los Angels tops the National League and the only NL team playing greater than .600 baseball. The Giants trade for slugger Rafael Devers, but SF is just 4-7 since his arrival into the lineup. The Rockies historically bad season has seen them lose 5-straight games into Sunday's final game of July, all as +180 or greater underdogs. 

The Dodgers (-2000) remain heavy division favorites with the Giants (+1200) given better odds to catch them than the Padres (+1800). 

National League Pennant odds show the Dodgers (+145) favored with the Phillies (+500), Mets (+650), Cubs (+700), Giants (+1000), Padres (+1400), Brewers (+1800) and somehow Braves (+1600) with lower odds due to sportsbook liability. The Diamondbacks (+2500), Cardinals (+3300) and Reds (+5000) are longshots with all other teams big bombs greater than 200/1 to win the NL Pennant halfway through the MLB regular season.
