San Jose Earthquakes vs. FC Dallas
Avaya Stadium, San Jose, California
6-8-2019 - 3:30 pm ET - 8:30 pm GMT

San Jose starts the match day as one of the hotter teams in the league, and after a slow start to their current campaign, the Earthquakes have rebounded nicely and are the current holders of the eighth-place spot in the Western Conference standings.

Matías Almeyda has provided a real spark for this once faltering squad, and after several seasons of mediocre play, the Mexican headman has his team headed on an upward trajectory.

Almeyda's Endurance Program

The former Chivas man has instilled an attention to detail towards his team's overall fitness, wanting his players to outlast their opponents for 90 minutes, the Liga MX champion has a reputation for collecting trophies based on his brand of football.

Chris Wondowloski has been the primary benefactor of his new manager's tactical approach, the league's all-time leading goal scorer has turned back the clock this season over a short period, posting seven goals in just seven appearances, the former USMNT member should be in a prime spot to continue his goal scoring ways against this Dallas unit.

San Jose has enjoyed playing on their pitch during the current season, with the Earthquakes winning their last four home matches, while also producing 1.7 goals per contest while in front of their home supporters.

Team Prop
San Jose - Team Total Over 1.5 Goals  -135 / 1.74

The hosts enter Saturday's match having failed to taste defeat against Dallas in their last five games in all competitions, including a 1-1 draw earlier in the season where San Jose looked the better team for much of their time on the Toros grounds.

FC Dallas makes the trip to California off an impressive 2-1 victory over Seattle their last time out, and now only three points back of fellow Texas side Houston, the Toros could close ground on their in-state rivals with a road victory.

Luchi Gonzalez is also beginning his first season as manager with this tenured club, and after several years within the team's academy ranks, the longtime MLS man finally gets his chance to call the shots on the sideline.

The Toro's Road Woes

The visitors have been a different unit away from home only winning two of their last seven away fixtures while dropping their last three away matches from the Toyota Stadium.

Young striker Jesús Ferreira has stepped up and shown his actual class as the teams dedicated number-nine within the organizations 4-2-3-1 formation, producing four goals as the team's main target man, Ferreira is most dangerous on the end of through balls where he is lethal in open space.

Michael Barrios will offer support to his young striker, and the veteran attacking midfielder has long been a stabilizing force within the teams frontline, able to use his passing skills to locate runners in the final third of the pitch, Barrios must play a key role if his team has hopes of snapping their recent woes away from home.

FC Dallas has also found keeping clean sheets during their travels a real challenge, conceding at least two goals in five of their last six road fixtures, it will be a considerable challenge to keep this dangerous San Jose attack off the scoreboard while on their pitch.

San Jose vs. FC Dallas - Match Prediction

This battle of Western Conference foes offers plenty of intrigues, with each club having lofty goals for the playoff race, each point matters in this highly competitive division.

San Jose continues to be involved in high scoring affairs, with the Earthquakes seeing the total surpass 2.5 goals in seven of their last eight home matches, this team expects to hit the back of the net while at the Avaya Stadium.

The home side is well adept at using their talent to produce scoring opportunities, their aggressive style of play suits them well as they consistently harass their opponents, wanting to create turnovers where they use through balls like a real weapon to spring their slew of attackers into action.

FC Dallas will likely be on the defensive for much of their time on the west coast, although they are a team who enjoy playing a possession-based style of play, it will be interesting to see if they concede the ball and attempt to catch the host on the counter-attack, where San Jose is vulnerable.

Match Prop
Both Teams To Score & Over 2.5 Goals  -110 / 1.91

Based on this particular matchup I expect an old fashion shoot out from the opening whistle, with each team producing plenty of shots on goal. After a low scoring affair during their first meeting of the season, the return visit will likely have a plethora of goals as the opening match starts a full day of action in the MLS.
