MLS Sunday Night

The MLS schedule winds down with a primetime matchup on Canadian soil. The league featured several different compelling contests throughout the week, and now two of the more well-established clubs are prepared to put on a show for their loyal viewers.

Toronto returns to the pitch after several forgettable outing's during this horrid stretch of play. The Reds have lost four straight matches including a 3-0 thumping to Real Salt Lake their last time out, and now with the backing of their loyal supporters, the home side hopes to claim a much-needed victory.

Greg Vanney has endured a rough stretch since winning the MLS Cup in 2017. The veteran manager witnessed his side plummet towards the bottom of the Eastern Conference table in 2018, and after a promising start to the new campaign the former defender must once again attempt to steer the ship out of danger.

The Reds Revised Roster

This Toronto squad witnessed their star player moved in the offseason. Sebastian Giovinco was the team's main danger man for several seasons, and after being sold to Saudia Arabian outfit Al-Hilal, the hosts have had to adapt to missing the "Atomic Ant" leading the line.

Alejandro Pozuelo is the newest designated player to arrive north of the border. The Spanish midfielder set the league on fire during his first league match scoring an impressive hat-trick, but since that unforgettable night he has only been able to find the back of the net two more times, and after picking up a red card his last time out, the Reds new arrival is serving a suspension against San Jose.

Jozy Altidore has returned in the nick of time. The USMNT member had been out for a brief period with a nagging injury, and with his team in need of a dedicated goal scorer, Altidore will attempt to fill that void and help lead his team to a positive result.

Toronto has experienced a large amount of success against their Western Conference foes, winning their last three matches while at the BMO Field, the Reds will hope to continue their recent dominance and reclaim the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

San Jose seems to have turned the corner in their current season after a rocky start to the campaign. The Earthquakes will now venture to their recent house of horrors and hope to reverse their past misfortunes.

Matías Almeyda has instilled some much-needed confidence into this proud club. The former Chivas manager understands what it takes to win trophies, and after moving from Liga MX, the successful headman has full intentions of bringing his new team back to the promised land.

The Quakes Unrelenting Motor

The visitors have placed a significant emphasis on their overall fitness, and after several seasons of lethargic performances, the San Jose hierarchy hopes their new approach will result in a third MLS title.

Chris Wondolowski is set to get another start atop the Quakes front-line. The team's all-time leading goal scorer showed his pure class against the Chicago Fire team last weekend, scoring four times to solidify his spot as the dedicated number-nine, and now facing a leaky Toronto back-line the San Jose striker should feast on the opportunity to continue his goal-scoring tear.

Shea Salinas has been one of the more consistent players within the unit, and the skilled midfielder has enjoyed playing within his new manager's style of play, using his dribbling and passing abilities to set up others in front of goal, while also thriving when able to finish the final product in the back of the net.

San Jose continues to climb up the Western Conference table, and with a victory, the Quakes could take over the eight place spot in the standings. The visitors will be aware of their recent disasters when visiting Toronto's grounds, and with the opportunity to exact a bit of revenge, we should see a highly motivated squad on full display.

Toronto vs. San Jose - Match Prediction

Toronto has experienced a difficult time getting on the scoreline as of late, after being held scoreless during their travels, the Reds were unable to break down a stubborn DC United team who faced over 30 shots on goal.

The home side will certainly want to attack this San Jose side down the wings where they have struggled to contain cohesive teams. The Reds must also use a heavy dose of through balls to spring their front-line players into action, where Toronto can catch opposing squads in vulnerable positions.

San Jose will likely end up on the short end of the possession battle, but they must absorb Toronto's pressure and then spring into action where they will have an advantage the longer this match plays out, currently averaging one goal per game during their travels, they tend to hit the back of the net on the road.

Both Teams To Score & Over 2.5 Goals  -135 / 1.74

The Sunday night marquee should provide plenty of fireworks, with these two teams combining for 20 goals over their last seven meetings, we hope to see another splendid performance from these high powered attacks.
