The Monday night game brings us to the City of Brotherly Love, as the Seattle Seahawks visit the Philadelphia Eagles.

Betting tips for Seahawks/Eagles Monday Night Football matchup

Sometimes the Monday Night Football game on ESPN provides a clunker, but we don't think this is one of those cases. Here we have two teams that are right in the thick of the playoff race. The Seattle Seahawks lead the NFC West by a half-game over the Los Angeles Rams, while the Philadelphia Eagles are percentage points behind Washington and the New York Giants in the NFC East.

BetOnline MNF Betting Odds: Seahawks -6 (-120), Total 49

A couple of weeks ago we were having high hopes for these Eagles. They were seemingly starting to slove some of their injury problems. They at least had one of their tight ends back, and with Alshon Jeffery and Jalen Reagor returning, this was filling out the wide receiver situation relatively nicely.

And Miles Sanders was an important guy to get back into the backfield. That's because the Eagles are actually an efficient team on the ground, averaging a little over five yards a carry, despite the injury problems they have experienced on the offensive line.

Eagles MNF free pickBut the team is still just 27th in offense, because of the stumbling of Carson Wentz. There is no one in the league with more negative plays than Wentz, who has been intercepted 14 times and sacked 40 times. In last week's game against the Browns, he looked like he was lost most of the time.

But the franchise has a lot invested in him - at minimum, they have $107 million in guaranteed money committed to him. So they are not yanking him that quickly, even though a lot of those volatile Philadelphia fans have called for rookie Jalen Hurts.

Not that we won't see Hurts on Monday night. Head coach Doug Pederson has apparently worked up a package of plays for him. And considering that Hurts is one of those "Dual-threat" quarterbacks, we look forward to some surprises.

Seahawks Eagles betting tipRussell Wilson hasn't exactly been mistake-free for the Seahawks, as he's tossed ten interceptions and coughed it up seven times in the last three games. But we do admit he is capable of much more offensive production than Wentz. The Eagles are one of the top three teams in the league at rushing the passer, but we already know a lot about Wilson's ability to scramble in order to buy time, and he throws the deep ball as well as anyone. Never has he had the home run threats he's got right now, in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

By the way, if you were looking for the "Legion of Boom," that's a distant memory. Seattle has almost nothing left from its best defensive days. In fact, they have allowed considerably more yardage per game than any other team in the NFL. They are trying to get things going in the right direction, as they have acquired Carlos Dunlap, who left an unhappy atmosphere in Cincinnati, as well as Jamal Adams, the All-Pro safety who had been with the Jets.

It wouldn't shock us if Philadelphia covered the pointspread in this game. But for purposes of this discussion, we might more expect a donnybrook offensively. So it's OVER the total for us.
