The Washington Redskins will try to pick up their first victory of the season as they take on the defensively-stout Chicago Bears at FedEx Field.

The Chicago Bears have enough defensive personnel to keep them in games, but they have yet to work up any head of steam when they have the ball. Maybe they can change that, because they have a capable offensive mind in head coach Matt Nagy. On Monday night they will head to FedEx Field in Landover, MD for a date with the Washington Redskins, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 PM ET. BetAnySports patrons can watch the game on ESPN and place wagers on the contest in progress, using the facilities of Live Betting Ultra.

It has been very difficult for the Bears to get things going on the attack end, and some people saw this coming, because they were not believers in quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who has struggled, to put it mildly. The Bears have been anything but explosive in their first two games - a loss to Green Bay and a win at Denver. He has averaged just 4.8 yards per attempt.

Redskins Bears MNF pickThe Redskins came into the season with a quarterback situation that was in a mess. Alex Smith is not going to play this season, and Colt McCoy has a broken leg. Dwayne Haskins was the first-round draft pick, but he is raw and needs to learn the intricacies of Jay Gruden's version of the West Coast offense. So the stopgap measure was to bring aboard Case Keenum, who has been making the rounds of NFL

. Two seasons ago in Minnesota, he helped the Vikings get to the NFC title game. He has gotten off to a very good start, completing 69% of his passes for 601 yards. He is able to get rid of the ball quickly, which is useful in trying to mitigate the effect of the Chicago pass rush.

In the Monday Night Football odds that have been posted on this game, the Bears are favored on the road:

Chicago Bears -4 (-106)
Washington Redskins (-104)

Over 41 points (-106)
Under 41 points (-104)

See those numbers? That's reduced juice at work. You can avoid the standard 11-to-10 on football at BetAnySports!

The problem that the Redskins encounter here is that they have not been able to run the ball with any kind of effectiveness. Adrian Peterson, who had over 1000 yards last year, was a healthy scratch in the first week and had 25 yards on ten carries last week. Derrius Guice has contributed very little. And Gruden has remarked that he "might have to wait until next week" to run the ball, since the Bears are pretty rough on teams in that part of the game. And we don't think he was being tongue-in-cheek about it.

Chicago Bears Monday Night Football free pickTrubisky has averaged just 4.8 yards per attempt. He has problems reading the defense, and although the Chicago offense may have caught some teams off-balance with their run-pass options last year, they aren't doing that this season. They also need to run the ball better; rookie David Montgomery (3.3 ypc) may not be ready to carry the load. In the early going, the Bears are 29th in yards gained per drive, and Nagy has stated that he is going to have to make Cordarelle Patterson's peed a part of this package somehow.

At least Chicago has continued to be stout on defense, even under new coordinator Chuck Pagano. The Bears have allowed just 19.2% third down conversions, and let's keep in mind that they've played against two Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks (Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco). The Redskins, on the other hand, have been awful on the stop end, ranking last in yards allowed per drive (47.5) and near the bottom in a number of other categories. Last week Dak Prescott missed on only four of his 30 pass attempts. Their third down conversion defense? Thus far, it's 64.3%, and that represents quite a disparity between these teams.

After facing an improved Green Bay defense and Denver's Vic Fangio, who was their defensive coordinator last season, the Bears may actually have a chance to move the ball. And it looks like Eddy Pineiro, who kicked three field goals last week, including the game winner, will be available after tweaking his knee in the weight room.

The Redskins come in here as a one-dimensional team. They are still without left tackle Trent Williams, who is holding out. They lose something with Donald Penn in that spot. They are missing tight end Jordan Reed, their most reliable pass-catcher (concussion problems). And if they slow anybody down, it's an accident. The best unit on this field - by far - is the Chicago "D." This will be good enough to cover the number.
