Trevor Lawrence comes back for the Jags and Aaron Rodgers still has a job with the Jets as the NFL comes together for Week 13.

It may be too late for the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets to salvage something out of their season, but does that mean we are not going to see a major effort out of them on Sunday in the NFL?

Last season was a tough rookie campaign for Carolina’s Bryce Young. And this year things got arguably more difficult as he was benched. But he’s a starter again, and coming off two encouraging performances. Trevor Lawrence has not been the guy the Jaguars expected he’d be, but the 25-year-old still has time to shine.

It was completely unexpected that the Jets would tank this year with Aaron Rodgers coming back from his Achilles injury. But that’s pretty much where they are right now. And the future of the QB, and the franchise, is uncertain.

So while there may not be playoff spots on the line for those teams, some careers might be on the line.

Let’s start talking.

Bet on the NFL at one of these Elite-rated sportsbooks!

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS at CAROLINA PANTHERS, 4:05 PM ET Sunday

NFL Odds from BetOnline:

Bucs -6 (-112) / Total 46.5 (Over -115, Under -105)

One of the things that has surprised people about the Tampa Bay offense this season is that they have been able to run the ball much better than they did last year. In fact, they are tenth in the NFL in yards per game and averaging 4.9 per carry, which is golden.

Carolina, which is yielding 31 points a game, has also surrendered more rushing yards per game than anyone. Interestingly, both of these teams are allowing opponents to gain 4.7 yards per rush attempt.

Did sitting on the bench in favor of Andy Dalton do Bryce Young any good? Well, we don’t think he’s going to be an outstanding NFL quarterback, but he has registered his two best QB ratings of the season in his last two outings. And don’t discount that Chuba Hubbard (876 yards) has been one of the league’s top ground gainers. So the Panthers may not be as impotent as many people think.

Take note that Carolina has gone over the total in the first half in every game but one this season.

THE PLAY: OVER 46.5 (-115)

HOUSTON TEXANS at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS, 1 PM ET Sunday

Pro Football Odds from BetOnline:

Texans -3.5 (-115) / Total 44 (Over -115, Under -105)

Trevor Lawrence is expected to return to the Jacksonville lineup, and while some critics have gotten on his case even when healthy, his numbers haven’t really been much more disappointing than they were last year, we’re still not moved. And he gets very little from his receivers in terms of yards after the catch.

What they’re doing in Jacksonville has been very weak, and many felt that head coach Doug Pederson may have been gone by now.

This defensive unit has been positively sieve-like, allowing almost 414 yards per game. That’s last in the NFL. Houston, off a disappointing defeat to the Titans, has beaten this opponent in eleven of the last 13 meetings.

THE PLAY: TEXANS -3.5 (-115)

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS at NEW YORK JETS, 1 PM ET Sunday

NFL Betting Odds from BetAnySports

Pick’em / Total 42 (Over -105, Under -115)

We do congratulate first-year coach Mike MacDonald for making the Seahawks at least look like a contender. They stopped Arizona’s potent ground game last weekend, holding them to 49 yards on 14 carries.

But this appears to be some kind of difficult scheduling situation for them, as they are3 doing an early start on the east coast.

The Jets, who have had a bye week to contemplate their dysfunctional situation, may or may not have Aaron Rodgers around next season. There had been some speculation that he would be shut down. But interim coach Jeff Ulbrich (1-5 record in the top spot) is not sitting him down.

I know we’re just talking numbers here, but the fact is, Rodgers has gone his last four games without an interception, completing 67% of his throws.

The Jets ought to do more than a good enough job against Geno Smith, as they are second-best in the NFL in passing yards allowed (and by the way, sixth best in passing yards overall).

THE PLAY: JETS pick (-110)
