The Pittsburgh Steelers will line up on Saturday in remembrance of one of their assistants who passed away, so it could be emotional against the Kansas City Chiefs.

To a considerable extent, a pro football team is like a family. And when a member of that family suffers, all the other members suffer a little as well. The Pittsburgh Steelers had to endure a loss to their family this past week, and they'll have that very much in mind as they play host to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. NFL Network will televise the game live, and BetAnySports customers will have the opportunity to place wagers while the game is in progress as they access what is available through Live Betting Ultra.

Darryl Drake was the Steelers' wide receiver coach. And sometime after the team's pre-season opener, a 30-28 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he complained of chest pains and went to the hospital. They wanted to keep him there overnight so they could check him out more carefully, but he declined to do so. He died the next day.

It was no surprise that the team canceled practice on Sunday and Monday, and the weather got the best of them on Tuesday, as they had to stop it very early because of rain. There wasn't a lot of talking to the press, as the mood was most certainly very somber. And so they have been adjusting.

The mood was more jubilant with the Chiefs, who rolled over Cincinnati in their first game with a 38-17 win. What has to be noted was the play of Patrick Mahomes, who took the team right down the field for a touchdown on his only drive. He was super-sharp, as was Chase Litton, who had 122 passing yards and two touchdowns. Andy Reid, who has a puzzle to solve in the backfield after the departure of Kareem Hunt, feels secure enough with his committee at the position that he cut Josh Caldwell, who broke loose for a beautiful 47-yard run against the Bengals.

In the NFL pre-season odds on this game, the Chiefs are favored on the road:

Kansas City Chiefs -3 (-105)
Pittsburgh Steelers +3 (-105)

Over 47 points (-102)
Under 47 points (-108)

If you notice, the numbers fall below the -110 that is customarily used for the "juice" on a football game. That's what you get with "reduced juice," where BetAnySports gives you the best deal you can get at any sportsbook.

Former head coach Bill Cowher told a local CBS affiliate, “For the first time, they (the Steelers) are kind of flying under the radar a little bit because all of the talk has been about Baker Mayfield and Odell up in Cleveland."

The main thing to look for as far as the Steelers' offense is concerned involves the quarterback competition, which is in play for the #2 spot behind Ben Roethlisberger. Mason Rudolph, an outstanding passer at Oklahoma State, might have taken an early lead, with two TD passes against Tampa Bay. Joshua Dobbs did not have a bad game, and so there isn't anything determined by a long shot. They'll both play, and so will Devlin Hodges, who has come from Samford University and impressed the staff. He got eighteen attempts last week and had a touchdown pass, playing well enough that Tomlin has to take a further look at him. If he's good enough to be a #3, it might give the Steelers some flexibility to get something in a trade for the Rudolph-Dobbs "loser."

Linebacker Devin Bush, the first-round pick from Michigan, looks like he's going to be a real winner (ten tackles last week), but on an overall basis, the stop unit didn't stop Tampa Bay too well, giving up 479 yards. Bruce Arians took an aggressive offensive posture, so you could imagine what the Chiefs could do if they are motivated. And the KC starters could play well into the first half. Darwin Thompson, a rushing-receiving threat out of Utah State, may be a real sleeper. The competition between Thompson, Carlos Hyde, Darrel Williams and others will benefit them here.

We can appreciate the emotional pitch the Steelers are likely to have, but if the preaching you hear from these coaches about players falling behind when they miss practices is to be believed (and there is no reason to assume it isn't), Pittsburgh has lost something in the way of preparation - not for a game plan, but just getting reps for the youngsters who are going to be playing a high percentage of the snaps. Yes, the line has moved toward the Chiefs, but we are not interested in buy-back, so we'll lay the points.
