Wednesday 2/19 College Basketball Betting Odds and Prediction: Butler vs. Seton Hall

Professional sports handicapper Ross Benjamin previews Wednesday’s Big East Conference showdown between Butler/Seton Hall and does so from a betting perspective. His highly informative and insightful article concludes with a point-spread winning pick.

It will be 2 nationally ranked teams squaring off on Wednesday when #16 Seton Hall (18-7/10-3) hosts #21 Butler (19-7/7-6). The opening tip is slated for 6:30 PM ET and Fox Sports1 will air this Big East Conference matchup. Currently, the college basketball betting odds at Heritage is showing Seton Hall as a 5.0-point favorite.

Public Betting Patterns

Seton Hall free pickAccording to 5Dimes, Seton Hall opened as a 6.5-point favorite. One of my most reliable sources presently shows 55% of point-spread bets have been made on Seton Hall. However, 56% of the total money wagered has gone the way of Butler. Hence a 1.5-point adjustment which clearly indicates reverse line movement and sharp money going on the underdog Butler Bulldogs.

Bulldogs Revenge

Butler will be out to atone for an earlier season (1/15/2020) 78-70 home loss to Seton Hall in a game which they closed as a 4.5-point favorite. Additionally, the Bulldogs squandered 40-30 halftime lead.

Pirates Odd Conference Home/Away Splits

The Seton Hall Pirates have gone a stellar 6-1 during Big East Conference away games this season. That’s even more impressive when you consider there are 5 Big East teams ranked from #13 to #21 in the current college basketball AP Poll. Conversely, Seton Hall has been beaten at home on 3 separate occasions which includes each of its last 2 against Xavier and Creighton.

Butler Seton Hall free playUrgency Favors Butler

Butler was 15-1 and #6 in the country when they faced Seton Hall on January 15th. Since that time, they’ve gone an uninspiring 4-6 and dropped 15 spots in the national rankings. Even more concerning is their conference record has fallen to 7-6. They now find themselves in a 3-way tie for 4th in the Big East standings with Providence and Marquette. That’s noteworthy when considering conference tournament action is quickly approaching and the top 4 teams will earn a first-round bye.

I look for Butler to exhibit a high degree of urgency, desperation, and intensity in today’s game against Big East Conference leader Seton Hall. The Bulldogs will also be out to avenge 1 of only 2 home losses they’ve sustained this season. There’s a lot to like about the underdog and one of my Wednesday college basketball picks aligns perfectly with that opinion.

Pick: Butler +5.0
