Defending World Series champions LA Dodgers big favorite over Toronto Blue Jays
The World Series 2025 Major League Baseball showcase begins in Toronto with the Blue Jays a decisive underdog to the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers. I'll chip in some selective picks, props and information you can bet on throughout the series, so check back ahead of each game for updates, odds, pitching matchups and props.
The Dodgers won the NL West but came up well short of their huge season win total and then advanced through the Wild Card round, Divisional Series over the Phillies and League Championship Series against the Brewers, who won 97 games to top MLB this season. The Blue Jays had a bye in the Wild Card Round and won the divisional round over the NY Yankees and then a thrilling Game 7 in Toronto on a late 3-run Home Run by George Springer to slip past the Seattle Mariners.
Storylines include Canada's first World Series in 32 years. Dodgers star Freddy Freeman is a California native, but he maintains duel citizenship in Canada and USA as his parents were born in Canada.

- Los Angeles Dodgers (-255) - Toronto Blue Jays (+211)
No doubt the Dodgers are built for this and playing their best baseball while now fully healthy. But you're paying a steep price to bet on LA and odds have been rising. The Blue Jays have home field and plenty of pop in their lineup along with proven pitching.
World Series schedule and viewing on FOX with a potential Game 7 on Nov. 1 for this year's Fall Classic. All games begin at 8 pm ET.

Reduced juice MLB is an endangered species, but thankfully some books (including us) still offer value.
Game 1 - Oct. 24
- Los Angeles (-150) at Toronto (+136), Total runs 7.5 - (B. Snell vs. T. Yesavage)
What a breakout and Grand Slam by the Blue Jay to destroy the Dodgers in Game 1 with 9 runs in the 6th inning and and a 11-4 victory. I planned on playing more overs in this series, and got in live betting on both the Blue Jays and over in Game 1.
Game 2 - Oct. 25
- Los Angeles (-143) at Toronto (+130), Total runs 7.5 - (Y. Yamamoto vs K. Gausman)
The Dodgers try to bounce back as the favorite again in Game 2. The adjusted series price at BetOnline is Dodgers (-129) and Blue Jays (+109). Righthander Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes the mound for Dodger Blue, and he's struck out 6 or more hitters in 14 of his last 15 starts. Both starting pitchers stikeout props in Game 2 are 5.5 with Yamamoto juiced heavily to the over. Similar to Game 1, I'd look for more runs after 3 innings as the Blue Jays try to get to the Dodgers suspect relievers again. Update: Dodgers win 5-1.
Game 3 - Oct. 27
Toronto (+171) at Los Angeles (-190), Total runs 8
- (M. Scherzer vs T. Glasnow)
Series tied 1-1, adjusted series odds LAD (-265), TOR (+219)
An epic classic and 6-5 Dodgers win in 18 innings on Freddy Freeman's walk-off home run. Shohei Ohtani was 4-for-4 with 2 HR's, 2 doubles and 4 intentional walks to set more records before he takes the mound as the Game 4 starting pitcher.
Game 4 - Oct. 28
Toronto (+174) at Los Angeles (-193), Total runs 8
- (S. Ohtani vs S. Bieber)
I bet the 'over' game total again like Game 3, but for less while continuing projection of more runs in this series and now completely depleted bullpens. Chance to live bet for more scoring if the starters (and umpires) keep it tight in early innings. Update: A 2-1 Toronto lead through 6 innings turned into a 6-2 Blue Jays win as big 'Dog to even the series 2-2. My Canadian sports betting colleague Sherwood led bettors to the Blue Jays as a big 'Dog Game 4 winner.
Game 5 - Oct. 29
Toronto (+182) at Los Angeles (-203), Total runs 7.5 - (T. Yesavage vs B. Snell)
Dodgers take money immediately following Game 4 and move from -190 to greater than 2/1 favorite. Total 7.5 to 8 back to 7.5. Update game day for any side, total or props picks. Adjusted World Series odds Dodgers (-187), Blue Jays (+163).
Game day update a few hours ahead of first pitch. Game total back to 8 at most top online sportsbooks and juiced to the 'over' at BetOnline. That was my play, but an Opinion over 8 runs with live betting again as the game goes on for more scoring. Snell has been special and strong in the postseason, but Blue Jays hitters have seen him from Game 1. Not sure about Yesavage with the rookie carrying the weight of Canada on the road against the experienced world champions in Los Angeles. Warm temps near 90 and continuing near 80 mid innings will help well-hit fly balls.
Game 6 - Oct. 31
Los Angeles (-136) at Toronto (+123), Total runs 7.5 - (Y. Yamamoto vs K. Gausman)
Dodgers bettors are getting buried laying big prices and trailing in the series 3-2 heading back to Toronto. The implausible script for most fans and bettors took another turn in Game 5 with a historic start by Blue Jays rookie starting pitcher Trey Yesavage. Seven innings of 3 hit ball with a rookie World Series record 12 strikeout and zero walks in a 6-1 win sets the stage for the Blue Jays back in Toronto. In the current 2-3-2 format, teams taking a 3-2 lead by winning Game 5 on the road before returning home for Games 6 and 7, have gone on to win the series 20 of 27 times (74.1%).
Any side, totals or player props of interest posted Saturday afternoon.
Game 7 - Nov. 1
Los Angeles (-139) at Toronto (+126), Total runs 8 - (S. Ohtani vs M. Scherzer)
The Dodgers held on for a 3-1 win in Game 6 after the Blue Jays failed to score in the bottom of the 9th inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs. Ohtani is expected to start, but perhaps a few innings and maximum 4 if he's on. Scherzer not likely to pitch many innings either, and he's been a big time big game pitcher in his prime, but that's not the case now. Game 7 play is Over 8 runs (+) and first 5 innings over as league-leading offenses with top hitters come to life with everything on the line in Game 7. The Dodgers weaker relievers (not likely) to hold up against the Blue Jays big bats - Opinion on Blue Jays as well with Toronto outscoring Los Angeles 30-21 through six World Series games. Canada is about to be sent into chaos.
Dodgers-Blue Jays Stats and Matchups
Some stats provided by VSiN show both teams had top-five offenses during the regular season. The Dodgers were second in wRC+ (weighted runs created plus), where the “+” part means that the statistic is park-adjusted and league-adjusted for that year’s run environment. The Blue Jays were fourth in wRC+ at 112, just one point behind the Dodgers, who were six points behind the Yankees for the league lead.
The Dodgers had the best home offense in baseball with a 125 wRC+ while scoring a league-high 447 runs at Dodger Stadium. They will start the series on the road against a Blue Jays bunch that had a 120 wRC+ at home, including the league’s second-highest batting average at .271.
The Blue Jays led the league in hits and only struck out 17.8% of the time while the Dodgers pitching staff had a 24.8% K% - second best in baseball. The Blue Jays are batting .296 in the playoffs with 20 homers and 26 doubles in 11 playoff games while facing by far the highest percentage of fastballs at 65%. Dodgers pitchers have thrown less than 50% fastballs in the playoffs.
Pitching: In 10 playoff games, the Dodgers have been able to limit their suspect bullpen usage with 66 innings from their strong starting pitchers who have all pitched exceptionally well - Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani. Three of those starters were limited this season with injuries and innnings, yet the Dodgers still led MLB in strikeouts. The Blue Jays starters pitched 37.1 innings in the 7-game ALCS, so slightly over five innings per start - Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber and Max Scherzer.
