• Issue #48 – Marketing Madness

    • Mar 11, 2003

In my last column I discussed “key numbers” with regards to the NBA. I had planned on following that up with a similar discussion regarding college basketball but have changed my mind for a couple of reasons. First, the data is far more difficult to amass and far less likely to mean anything.

  • Issue #47 – Are There Key Numbers in the NBA?

    • Mar 6, 2003

I can hardly believe February is coming to an end already. Has it really been a month since the Super Bowl already? Well, that can only mean March Madness is just around the corner so it must be time to turn our attention to basketball. Readers and clients frequently ask me if there are any “key numbers” in basketball.

  • Issue #46 – Which NHL Teams Will Sink/Surge?

    • Feb 12, 2003

The NFL season is behind us for another year and it is time to turn our attention to those “other sports” until next September. College basketball will be in the headlines until March Madness is over and then the NBA playoffs take over (at least until the Western Conference finals are done).

  • Issue #45 – Not Exactly a Super Bowl

    • Jan 29, 2003

The Super Bowl wasn't exactly a stellar game for fans to watch or for the book, but Super Sunday was an overall success for us anyways. We set records for handle, number of wagers, deposits and sign-ups. In fact we had more sign-ups per hour on Sunday than we had in our first month of operation way back when. Behold the power of the Internet!

  • Issue #44 – A Tale of Two Seasons:

    • Jan 21, 2003

Last week, I recapped the entire college football season from the House’s point-of-view. This week, I would like to recap the entire NFL season and then finish the trilogy next week with the post-season review.

  • Issue #43 – The 2002 College Football Season in Review

    • Jan 15, 2003

This past college football season was a great one for books. There is often a lot of talk that betting on college football is easier to win at than betting on the NFL and until this year our numbers supported that theory.

  • Issue #42 – Bad Beats are Bad for Business

    • Jan 7, 2003

Happy New Year everybody. Let’s hope every sporting event we watch this year is as exciting as the two NFL games this past Sunday. However, we should also hope that the referees do a better job than they have in the past few days, especially if you are a fan of the New York Giants or the Miami Hurricanes.

  • Issue #41 – Christmas Week Recap

    • Dec 31, 2002

The NFL regular season has just wrapped up and for the most part I think it was pretty good for books, especially the last couple of months. I’ll save the complete season recap for later and for this week, let me just review very quickly how the last 7 days fared for the House.

  • Issue #40 – Home Dogs Bite Big

    • Dec 30, 2002

I had planned on giving you all a preview of upcoming Bowl action in this column but upon further review that looked like it was going to be a really short and boring column.

  • Issue #39 – The Weekend in Review

    • Dec 18, 2002

Bowl season is upon us, the holidays are almost here and the NFL regular season is wrapping up. So, for the next few weeks, rather than get started on basketball columns, I will deviate from regular programming to provide a little larger peek behind the bookmaking curtain.

  • Issue #38 – Handicapping the Handicappers

    • Dec 13, 2002

However, I also get a lot of emails on topics outside what is covered in my columns. There are a couple of themes that stand out: “Who do you like in tonight’s big game?” and “I want to use a handicapping service. Who do you recommend?” I want to cover both of these issues today.

  • Issue #37 – Tease Me, Please Me

    • Dec 5, 2002

Over the last two weeks, I have tried to explain some of the mathematics behind parlays to help you understand why the payoffs are set where they are. This week I want to cover Teasers and the good news is there is no math to discuss today.
