The BetOnline sportsbook is carrying some intriguing props centering around the outcome of the Belmont Stakes.

In the BetOnline racebook, you'll be able to do win-place-show betting on the Belmont Stakes. But if you go into the sportsbook, you can find a number of special props associated with the race (7:02 PM ET).

Some of these are head-to-head matchups, which pit one horse against another.

We should also mention that you have the opportunity to bet on who will finish LAST. Here are the odds on that (with post positions):

5 Il Miracolo +175
1 Tapit Shoes +400
9 Red Route One +550
7 Hit Show +700
3 Arcangelo +800
4 National Treasure +1100
2 Tapit Trice +1400
8 Angel of Empire +1600
6 Forte +2000

There are two viable contenders here. Tapit Shoes will be racing in his first graded stakes, and has only $83,000 in winnings. But our choice here is going to be Il Miracolo, who is easily the slowest horse here. Yes, he has been in graded stakes races. But in none of them has he hit the board or come within ten lengths of the winner. And his speed numbers just don't stand up to what Tapit Shoes has under his belt.

Then again, at least Il Miracolo found his way into races that have world-class participants, like the Fountain of Youth and Florida Derby. Both of these horses have a pretty good pediogree for the Belmont Stakes; Tapit Shoes, of course, is directly out of Tapit, while tapit is a grandsire of Il Miracolo.

We're not going to tell you there are a lot of other serious "contenders" to win this prop. Red Route One is the third "favorite," and may be waiting for an opportunity to mount a closing charge. But if he doesn't fire, it could wind up being a very poor result.

The ultimate choice? We're going with the "top choice," Il Miracolo.

Let's look at some of the other props that are available at BetOnline:

Best Finishing Position?

Forte +150
Angel of Empire +185
Tapit Trice +220

Is Forte truly a great horse? This is his chance to prove it. And frankly, to have taken so much time off, then to come back and win the third jewel of racing's Triple Crown and the longest distance possible for it would be a hell of an accomplishment.

Tapit Trice and Angel of Empire are a couple of closers who may, under certain circumstances, have some trouble if the pace isn't strong on the front end. Angel of Empire's trainer, Brad Cox, may be addressing that successfully with blinkers. If he doesn't have so much ground to make up, he may just blow by these opponents.

Best Finishing Position?

National Treasure +125
Arcangelo +225
Hit Show +225

Hit Show faded in the Kentucky Derby. Are there any excuses for that? We're relatively sure that National Treasure won't be able to run the same kind of race that he did in the Preakness. So he would have to find another way to win.

Actually, the question isn't whether he will win the race, but whether he can beat out - well, for our purposes - Arcangelo. That is Jena Antonucci's three-year-old, who has raced only once outside of maiden company, but cashed a ticket with a win over Bishop's Bay in the Peter Pan Stakes. That victory took place over this track, and that was the first graded stakes win for Blue Rose Farm.

There's a lot of Belmont success in this pedigree, and that includes Tapit, the star Belmont stud who is connected to several of the competitors here. This is a horse with a very live chance.

Best Finishing Position?

Red Route One -105
Tapit Shoes +130
Il Miracolo +485

We gave Red Route One a chance to make some noise in the Preakness, and indeed he came fourth. The best hope for Steve Asmussen's colt is to be able to launch a deep closing run, but there are certain conditions that would have to be in place for that to happen. And this horse is not good enough to beat the others who may be implementing the same strategy.

Still, there is something he's got to work with, and we're not sure the same can be said of Tapit Shoes, who is competing in his first graded stakes, or Il Miracolo, who has just two wins - a maiden race and an optional claimer.

Brad Cox to Train the Belmont Stakes Winner

No -220
Yes +173

Well, Cox, who won the Eclipse Award as the outstanding trainer in both 2020 and 2021, has Angel of Empire, Tapit Shoes and Hit Show in the race. The only one we give a realistic chance to is Angel of Empire, so you're probably better off just placing a straight bet on that horss to win. The "No" is most likely the best value.

Gate to Wire Winner?

No -600
Yes +425

This isn't going to happen. Let's put it this way - Justify and American Pharoah went coast-to-coast with a win in this race, and there is no one in their class. And even if Forte has a chance to elevate himself to that level, he's not going to get out front early.
