FIFA Women's World Cup Preview and Betting Tips - USA vs. Chile

Picks, predictions and props for the Women's World Cup as USA battles Chile.

Women's World Cup

The Women's World cup wraps up their second weekend of action, and with Group F highlighting the card on Sunday, group favorites Sweden and the United States will want to best one another towards overall goal differential in the standings.

The United States will have a hard act to follow after their 13-0 opening match result against an overmatched Thailand squad, but the ladies of the Stars and Stripes will attempt to keep their high powered attack in overdrive against an overachieving Chilean team.

Jill Ellis will have several decisions to make regarding her starting eleven as the opening whistle arrives, and with a lengthy list of world-class depth, the World Cup-winning manager cannot go wrong regardless of her plan of action.

The USWNT's Ruthless Aggression

The defending champs showed why they are considered the favorites to repeat this monumental feat, and after placing 13 goals in the back of the net, the Americans proved they have no plans of taking their foot off the gas regardless of their opponent.

Carli Lloyd and Cristen Press seem the most logical options to get the starting nod's on Sunday night, and with the opportunity to prove they are still worthy of full-time minutes, the veteran tandem is likely to have memorable performances while in the capital city.

Alex Morgan stole the show after scoring a record five goals in her return to the World Cup. The talented forward had been rumored to take a seat on the bench with several replacements in store, but as the matchday arrives the feared striker seems ready to resume her roll on the front-line, as she continues to make up for missing out on the tournament four years ago, due to an unfortunate injury.

The United States has enjoyed playing their South American foes, and after racking up seven goals during their warmup matches for this Summer's event, there will be plenty of confidence they can find the back of the net on a routine basis.

The American's will also have added motivation with Sweden taking to the pitch in the opening fixture, knowing how vital goal differential is towards capturing the top seed in the group, the reigning champs will want to top their closest rivals.

Chile was dealt a hard hand in their opening contest, after holding off the advancements of the Swedes deep into the second half, the Chileans eventually conceded two goals as their hopes of grabbing a positive point were snatched away by their European opposition.

José Letelier understands the significant obstacle in front of his unit, and with a third-place finish in the group his main objective at this point in the proceedings, the La Roja Femenina head-man will attempt to limit any damages heading into their final matchup with Thailand.

Chile's Anchor In The Back

Team captain Christiane Endler is the teams brightest star, and although she handles the goal-keeping responsibilities, the PSG netminder is considered one of the best at her craft, and will surely want to put on a masterful showcase while at her clubs home stadium.

Yanara Aedo must also rise for this grand occasion. The Chilean midfielder was instrumental in the underdogs progressing to France during qualifiers, and now her presence on the pitch will be leaned on heavily as she attempts to create for others while finding the back of the net if the opportunity presents itself.

La Roja Femenina were effective at finding the back of the net during World Cup qualifiers, scoring an average of 1.9 goals per match, although they have failed to hit the back of the net during their time in France, the South American outfit is fully capable of getting on the scoreline.

USA vs. Chile - Match Prediction

The USWNT will no doubt place an enormous amount of pressure on the Chilean back-line, using their impressive wing-play to open up opportunities in front of goal. The Americans are expected to possess a large amount of the ball, camping out on Chile's side of the pitch, while launching a large number of shots on goal.

Chile is well aware of what to expect from the defending champs, having surrendered seven goals in their two encounters in 2018, the South American champs should have a legitimate gameplan of how to contain their northern neighbors while wanting to use the counter-attack and set-pieces to their advantage.

Match Prop
USA To Win & O4.5 Goals  -135 / 1.74

The probability of seeing goals will still be at a high percentage anytime the US women step onto the pitch, and although I do not expect another thirteen goal performance in France, I am backing the USWNT to score multiple times before the end of 90 minutes.
