Whenever Conor McGregor enters the Octagon, you can be sure that it's a major event. And on Saturday night, he'll be returning for the first time in a year as he faces off against Dustin Poirier in a scheduled five-rounder atop the UFC 257 card taking place in Abu Dhabi. This is, of course, a Pay-Per-View event, and BetOnline is there to help you get the most out of it, with Incredible props that you can take advantage of.
The main event is scheduled for 11:50 PM ET.
As far as the odds on who will win the fight and over under on distance, it goes like this:
Conor McGregor - 315
Dustin Poirier + 255
Under 2.5 rounds - 185
Over 2.5 rounds + 155
As you may know, McGregor is in the news for a lot of things these days, not the least of which is a proposed fight between himself and Manny Pacquiao, which, like his boxing match against Floyd Mayweather, is virtually guaranteed to bring huge PPV dollars. We're not saying that the Pacquiao fight won't go through if he doesn't win, but we are saying that it would look a lot better if he didn't lose.
Furthermore, it would look really great if McGregor could get a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov, who defeated him via submission back in October 2018. But it looks as if that's not going to happen, since Khabib announced that he won't be fighting anymore. Dana White of the UFC wouldn't mind if you thought otherwise, and obviously anything can happen. But McGregor has been lobbying for this particular match to be declared for the vacant title. That didn't happen.
One of the things that makes a fight like this so appetizing is the fact that you can get in on a lot of different prop betting. And BetOnline has all kinds of possibilities for you. You can, for example, but on the exact method of victory. For example, you will have to weigh -200 that McGregor wins inside the distance, whether that is by KO, TKO or disqualification. For Poirier to do that, you'll get paid at +600 odds.
Would you like to pick the exact round in which the fight will end? Well, let's say that McGregor wins it in the second round; your payoff is +350 if you bet that way. If Poirier wins it in Round 4, that's a handsome payout of + 2200. And if he wins it on points that's +550.
You can also match up either fighter with the exact method of victory and the exact round. Take note that McGregor, who has 22 mixed martial arts victories to his credit, scored 19 of them by knockout, but only one by submission. So naturally, he's a long shot to win by submission in any of the five rounds, priced at + 5000.
So you are kind of getting the point here. As you are watching this fight, you are not only able to root for the individual fighter, but also on other things to boot. And if you are a pretty good handicapper, you can get paid off very well.
Does Poirier have a chance? Well, many observers seem to think so, based on the fact that McGregor has been relatively inactive, having fought only once, and for only 40 seconds no less, since that fight against Khabib 27 months ago. Poirier has not only fought Khabib himself, losing a lightweight title bout to him by third-round submission in September 2019, he has fought McGregor in the past. That was back in September of 2014, and Poirier failed to get out of the first round before McGregor pounded him out with stripes.
Poirier insists that he is in a better place mentally now, and McGregor gives him quite a bit of respect, as he recognizes that he's probably going in there with a different fighter this time around.
