The Buffalo Bills were naturally very unhappy about what happened to them in the first game of the season. The New York Jets were introducing Aaron Rodgers in a regular season game for the first time. And just like that, he tore his Achilles and was out for the season (maybe).
Then BetOnline customers watched as disaster struck. But it wasn't for the Jets and backup quarterback Zach Wilson. It was for Josh Allen and the Bills, who averaged only 4.6 yards per play for the game.
Allen was intercepted three times, all of them by Jordan Whitehead, which helped the Jets to a 22-16 overtime win. We doubt such a thing will repeat itself, but the fact is, Allen has been picked off nine times on the season.
The Bills were also upset about what happened in last week's game against the Denver Broncos. Buffalo had 369 yards, but they turned the ball over four times in a gut-wrenching 24-22 defeat.
This was unquestionably an underachievement on the part of the offense. And something had to be done. At least that was the rationale of head coach Sean McDermott. So early this week he fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and replaced him with Joe Brady, who had been functioning as the quarterback coach.
This was McDermott's message that there is something fundamentally and systematically wrong with what the Bills are doing, and they need to be corrected.
The Bills and Jets meet at Highmark Stadium at 4:25 PM ET.
in the odds at BetOnline from which we will do our NFL free pick, the Bills are favored:
Buffalo Bills -8
New York Jets +8

Under 39 points -105
Dorsey, an All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist when he was a quarterback at Miami (FL), had been elevated into the coordinator role from his previous position as quarterback coach, as he replaced Brian Daboll, who moved on to become head coach of the New York Giants.
The Bills were not finishing drives. They were predictable. Maybe Dorsey was a scapegoat. Maybe there was a complaint about play-calling from Allen. Who knows.
But we can tell you Brady has his "guru" badge. He was largely responsible for the emergence of Joe Burrow as a figure on the national scene, as he was a passing game coordinator at LSU. Of course, Burrow became the Heisman winner and top choice in the draft.
There will be some things different in the Buffalo offense. And perhaps some improvements. But will a transformation happen quickly? We'll see some positive plays from Stefon Diggs, who had 102 yards in the first meeting. James Cook rebounded from an early fumble last week to have 109 rushing yards, and he can be formidable.
No, Zach Wilson is not real efficient, but the Jets haven't done a bad job of making up for it. They are ranked #1 in pass coverage through the analytical measurements available from Pro Football Focus. Sauce Gardner always has a shot of shutting down any receiver.
The Jets will actually move ahead of Buffalo in the standings if they win it. We'll take the points.
