Everybody knows what Patrick Mahomes can do, but maybe they don't realize what Jimmy Garoppolo has accomplished in advance of Super Bowl 54.

Garoppolo brings his own magic to the field for SBLIV

The story of how Jimmy Garoppolo became the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers is interesting indeed. When he was the property of the New England Patriots, the general consensus was that he was an heir apparent to Tom Brady. But the Pats weren't going to be able to keep him beyond his rookie contract because Brady was not ready to step aside. So Bill Belichick decided that the best thing to do was get something in return for him.

When the trade was made with the Niners, it seemed like forever for head coach Kyle Shanahan to put Jimmy G into the lineup. He wanted his new quarterback to be completely conversant with the playbook. But when he was ready, things started to fly.

Now Garoppolo, in what is his first full season as the QB of this team, has the 49ers in the Super Bowl, against the Kansas City Chiefs. The game takes place on Sunday at 6:30 PM ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

BetAnySports has a lot of great stuff for its customers, including reduced juice, which gives you better value by allowing you to avoid having to lay the customary -110 on football. Plus there is Sports Betting Ultra, which allows real-time wagering during the game itself. Of course, there is a boatload of props as well. It's quite impressive.

Jimmy Garoppolo preview and tipsHere is their line on the SBLIV, which has the Chiefs as a slight favorite:

Kansas City Chiefs     -1.5
San Francisco 49ers +1.5

Over 54 points -110
Under 54 points -110

While many more people are aware of Patrick Mahomes, the spectacular quarterback of the Chiefs, there may be some things you don't know about Garoppolo and his tenure as the field leader for the San Francisco offense.

1) This guy has proven to be a very capable fourth-quarter passer. In fact, he has completed 70% of his throws in the final periods of games. And his ratio is six touchdowns to only one interceptions.

2) He is dangerous in play-action situations, completing 69% with an average of 11.5 yards per throw. This is meaningful in the sense that the Niners will do their best to establish a running attack, and if they do it, Jimmy G may really be able to go to work.

3) He is a very sharp red zone passer, with 16 touchdown passes while being picked off only twice. He is 63% accurate down there, compared to 51.8% on the part of Mahomes.

4) Fifty percent (50%) of Garoppolo's dropbacks against Green Bay in the NFC title game have resulted in first downs.

5) There may be a certain weak spot in the respect that Garoppolo hasn't performed tremendously well against the blitz. In fact, he threw seven of his 13 interceptions when being blitzed, against only ten TD's. And his quarterback rating in this specific situation was just 92.9.

6) Garoppolo has averaged only 6.5 yards past scrimmage per passing attempt. That is short, to the extent that the only starting QB in the NFL who had a lower average than that was Drew Brees.

7) At the same time, no one should be under the impression that Jimmy G can't get the ball down the field. He certainly can, and there is no better evidence than the fact that he is the league's most accurate passer on throws that have gone 15 or more yards past scrimmage, with 58.5%. By comparison, Mahomes is 46.7%.

8) Garoppolo threw the ball only eight times against Green Bay in the NFC title game. That was the fewest attempts in a playoff game since Bob Griese had seven attempts in Super Bowl VIII.

9) Behind Garoppolo, the 49ers have produced explosive passing plays on 12% of all pass attempts. That is the highest percentage in the NFL.

10) A lot of Kansas City supporters bring up coach Andy Reid's record after a bye week, which is 23-4. But remember that Garoppolo has a 23-5 record as an NFL starting quarterback. The first two of those came filling in for Tom Brady in New England. Then in 2017 he took the reins of a 1-10 team and won five in a row.

This is no "game manager." Don't have any doubts that he could prove a difference-maker.
