Weekend Best Bets - Mar. 13-14

A look at the weekend betting card, with top picks for NBA, NHL and college basketball action.

Betting tips and top picks for weekend sports betting action

With the NBA All-Star break over, the league gets back at it for the second half of the season and there is plenty of weekend action.

The NHL continues to heat up with Tampa Bay and Toronto emerging as the top two teams in the league.

College basketball enters its final week before March Madness with a number of conference tournament championships, one of which is already set. Here's a look at that matchup as well as the other top bets for this weekend.

NBA: Dallas at Denver

Dallas was on a roll before the All-Star break winning 10 of their final 13 games in the first half of the season. They won the final one, an 87-78 win over Oklahoma City, without star Luka Doncic.

NBA free pick Dallas DenverDoncic is back in the lineup and averages 28.6 points per game. Denver’s Nikola Jokic is an MVP candidate with averages of 27.1 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 8.6 assists. The Nuggets are the fourth-highest scoring team in the league and also rank fourth in offensive efficiency.

The two teams have played twice already this season with each team winning on the other’s home floor. What’s more interesting is that in both games the total went Over.

Expect another high scoring game on Saturday night in Denver. The total for the game should check in around 222 or 223. Either way, play the Over in this one. The Over is 22-13-1 in Nuggets’ games this season.

A-10 Championship - Best Bets

The Atlantic-10's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament is up for grabs on Sunday when St. Bonaventure (15-4) faces VCU (19-6). The Bonnies enter the title game having won five of their last six. They also covered the spread in five of the last six games.

A-10 Championship free pickVCU has won three of their last four. Like St. Bonaventure, the Rams have covered in three of their last four games. However, where the value is at is on the total.

Both teams trend toward the Under. The Under is 14-5 in St. Bonaventure games and 16-9 for VCU. In each team’s last seven games, the Under is 6-1 for the Bonnies and 5-2 for the Rams.

In their two previous meetings this season, the totals were 140 and 136. Both games went Under. Expect a similar total and two teams that will battle each other for their guaranteed ticket to March Madness.

Play the Under all the way down to 136.

Sunday NHL Betting

Toronto will be looking to make up for its recent three-game slide. The Maple Leafs lost consecutive games to Vancouver and then dropped a 4-3 decision to Winnipeg, the second-place team in the North Division.

NHL betting tips The Leafs will face the Jets again on Thursday and Saturday before playing Ottawa on Sunday. The Senators are the worst team in the division at 9-18-1 overall.

Toronto will travel to Ottawa after Saturday night’s game with Winnipeg. The Senators will have Saturday night off after playing Edmonton on Friday. That should help the outmanned Senators.

Ottawa has beaten Toronto twice already this season. The Senators have had a two-game series and a three-game series with the Maple Leafs. They won the first game of each series.

Toronto is tied with Tampa Bay for the most wins in the NHL. Despite being on the road, the Maple Leafs will be favored to win. With the rest advantage and playing at home on Sunday, take the Senators for the upset on the moneyline.
