The Wyoming Cowboys bid farewell to well loved coach Craig Bohl as they take the field against the Toledo Rockets in the Arizona Bowl.

The Toledo Rockets actually spent some time in the national rankings this season, but they had their eleven- game winning streak spoiled by Miami of Ohio in the MAC title game. Has that taken the wind out of their sails? That’s something for BetOnline customers to ponder.

There were other things for them to ponder as well, including the defection of key offensive players, and it might be very bad timing for that, considering they will be facing a very charged-up Wyoming Cowboys team in the Arizona Bowl, scheduled for 4:30 PM Eastern time in Tucson, and televised by the CW.

Toledo's nifty quarterback, Dequan Finn, is out of this game, and he is someone who’s going to be tough to replace. Finn completed 63.4% of his passes for 8.4 yards per attempt, throwing 22 touchdowns. In his place, Tucker Gleason will get the start, but Gleason won’t have the support of the teams top running back. Peny Boone, who had 1400 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns, has entered the transfer portal.

This is a tough break, considering that Toledo doesn’t really have anyone you could call a game-breaking wide receiver. so they’re gonna have to be very active on defense, and we’ll talk about that in a moment.

In the college football betting odds posted on this Arizona Bowl by the people at BetOnline, Wyoming is laying points:

Wyoming Cowboys -5
Toledo Rockets +5

Over 44 points -110
Under 44 points -110

Toledo will obviously have to rely on its defense to keep things close in this game. And they have quite a defensive unit to throw out there. The Rockets allowed opponents to complete only 51.7% of their passes for 183 yards per game. And they weren’t necessarily weak along the defensive front either, allowing only 3.9 yards per rushing attempt. Toledo is in the top 30 nationally in points scored and points against. The Mid-American Conference is generally not considered one of the nation's toughest, but Toledo came up with non-Ccnference wins against both Illinois and San Jose State.

However, as we’ve had to experience so much in the way of players disappearing during this bowl season, Wyoming would seem to have a very special incentive to put forth a special effort. Craig Bohl, who was one of the nation's top FCS coaches before spending a decade in Laramie, is retiring after this game, and he’s got a chance to get Wyoming to its ninth win for the first time during his tenure. The Cowboys are in familiar territory, as this is their third Arizona Bowl in the last four seasons.

Bohl's offensive approach, which, by the way produced Buffalo Bills quarterback, Josh Allen, is simple, but efficient. And it calls on the quarterback to run with the football. Andrew Peasley, a sixth- year senior, handled those responsibilities this season. He averaged 7.6 yards per attempt and threw only five interceptions against 20 touchdowns. He was also the second-leading rusher on the team.

No, we don’t look for a lot of explosive plays here, And frankly, there was only one receiver with more than 30 receptions. But Wyoming hopes to have a healthy Harrison Waylee in the backfield, because he gained 856 yards on 5.9 yards per carry this season.

Wyoming competes in the Mountain West, which is a little better conference than Toledo's, and they did beat Texas Tech and Appalachian State from outside the league. They are no slouch on defense, and you may one day see linebacker Easton Gibbs, playing on Sundays.

Toledo isn’t completely lost at the quarterback position with Gleason, who has thrown 12 career touchdowns, but as we’ve mentioned, the emotional edge is clearly in Wyoming’s corner, and at this time of year, when the bowl games are rapidly being reduced to exhibitions, that’s an important consideration. So we are going to lay the points.
