The golf world will be watching on Sunday as Tiger Woods teams up with Peyton Manning to take on Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady at the Medalist course on Florida's east coast.

* NOTE: There appears to be a strong possibility that Sunday's big golf match may be washed out. Severe thunderstorms are in the forecast, according to the Weather Channel, and they might be taking place right around the time the match is to begin. So leave yourself open to the proposition that this could take place on Monday (Memorial Day), or even next weekend.

When you look at this "Match 2" as a handicapping proposition, you should know that while Tiger Woods is the player who has most recently won a major, Phil Mickelson is still someone who could beat him on any given day. In fact, about a year and a half ago he defeated Woods in the so-called "Match for Millions" that became a bit of a pay-per-view fiasco.

But Tiger has something of a "home-course advantage" in the sense that he is playing at Medalist, which can more or less be considered home territory for him. We have read that Peyton Manning has played the course too, which has to offer at least a little bit of confidence to those BetAnySports customers who are inclined to place a friendly (or not) wager on the Woods-Manning duo to win their Sunday matchup against Mickelson and Tom Brady.

Brady is a world-class athlete, and Manning has obviously been one until just recently, but that does not necessarily afford any kind of edge to Brady. In fact, it may even work to his disadvantage, if you consider the proposition that in retirement, Manning has gotten to play a little more golf.

The last recorded handicap figures for these two indicate that Manning is a 6.4 handicap, while Brady's is 8.1. Maybe the gap's wider right now; maybe it isn't.

And then maybe you have to ask yourself whether Lefty might be not long for the senior's tour (more on that in a moment).

This match is played in a best-ball format on the front nine, with modified alternate shots on the back nine.

We're looking at 3 PM ET for this match at Hobe Sound, FL, televised by a number of Turner networks - TNT, TBS, truTV and HLN. In the golf betting odds that have been posted on this matchup by the folks at BetAnySports, the Woods-Manning team is solidly favored:

Woods & Manning -185
Mickelson & Brady +160

Woods and Manning are also -170 to lead the match after nine holes, so presumably the oddsmakers believe the favorites will continue to assert their advantage over the second half of the match. And maybe that tells you that they have a little more faith in Manning than they do Brady.

Last week viewers welcomed the match at Seminole that pitted Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson against Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff. You have bigger names here, and certainly names that appeal to a much broader audience.

And it is being treated with a lot of pomp and circumstance by WarnerMedia, which has already pledged $10 million to the designated charities, which include the American Red Cross and an outfit called "Save Small Business." So it's all nice.

Mickelson will actually be qualified for the PGA Champions Tour in a matter of three weeks, when he celebrates his 50th birthday. If he played there he would almost definitely become a force, but it's not as if he has been without any recent success against the game's best. He last found victory in a major in 2013, when he won both the U.S. Open and British Open. And then he went five years without a triumph, but won a World Golf Championship (WGC) event in 2018 and then beat Tiger in the one-on-one match eight months later, in an event that had to go to four playoff holes. Last February, he captured the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. And this year, he finished third, although he has missed the cut in four of his last five tournaments.

Tiger is still the defending Masters champion, since this year's tournament has been postponed until November. But people lose sight of the fact that even though his latest win at Augusta was arguably the biggest sports story of the year, Woods didn't just come out of nowhere after his injury. He had won the Tour Championship in 2018 and also led both the British Open and PGA Championship on the final day that year, finishing T5th and second, respectively. So no one should expect that this guy is far off his form.
