Kyler Murray is out and Colt McCoy is in as quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. So how will McCoy do?

Prop betting tips for Cards/Niners Monday Night Football matchup

Kyler Murray is certainly a guy with a lot of special talents as a quarterback. For one thing, he is mobile enough that he has the capacity to confound any defense. Of course, he is sometimes confounded himself; BetOnline patrons may remember that in the off-season, he signed an extension that included a clause that required him to do more "study" of game footage. In other words, he didn't prepare enough, and it had an effect on this team.

MNF prop betting tipsYou might say that's carried over into the 2022 season. The Arizona Cardinals are currently sitting with a 4-6 record (5-5 against the spread), and they are very luckily still in the hunt in the NFC West.

Now Murray has gone down with a hamstring injury. It sidelined him for last week's game against the Los Angeles Rams. He said during the week that he feels "a lot better," but the training staff is thinking it's not good enough to play on Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City.

So Colt McCoy, who led the Cards to a 27-17 victory against the Rams last week, will get the call again. He seems to be a guy who thrives on preparation; when you are a backup in this league, that's a necessity.

So this naturally brings up the question about what his numbers might be like. We are zeroing in on a couple of NFL props, and here they are as they are currently listed in the Prop Builder app at BetOnline.ag:

Colt McCoy - Pass Attempts

Over 34.5 Attempts -102
Under 34.5 Attempts -129

and....

Colt McCoy - Passing Yards

Over 218.5 Yards -107
Under 218.5 Yards -122

There is some recent history for McCoy against the Niners. Last season, when Murray was out of action with a foot injury, McCoy made the start and went 22 of 26 for 249 yards and a TD. He did get picked off, and he succeeded in keeping the San Francisco pass rush a step slow. What he was able to do was get rid of the ball quickly, complete short passes, and let his receivers take the ball and make some yardage out of it. That's exactly what he did, with 194 yards coming after the catch.

Last week against the Rams, McCoy did whatever he had to do to win, throwing it 37 times and completing 26, for 238 yards total. We should mention that McCoy got banged up a little (knee, hamstring).

NFC West 49ers Cardinals free picksWhen you take a look at Arizona's situation, they really have a deep corps of receivers if they are all healthy at the same time. DeAndre Hopkins, listed as questionable, should be set to play, and he is a game-changer when he is in there. McCoy found him ten times last week. Rondale Moore is a dangerous option, and he had nine catches last week. Marquise Brown is eligible to be activated off the IR list and the Cards have until 4 PM ET to make a decision as to whether he'll suit up. Veteran AJ Green made a great play on a touchdown catch in last week's game. Then there is Robbie Anderson, who was acquired in a trade with Carolina but hasn't contributed a whole lot. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury insists he'll get more of an opportunity.

Tight end Zach Ertz, unfortunately, injured a knee last Sunday and has been declared out for the season. This may present more of a pass-catching opportunity for James Conner in the screen game, as a way of keeping that Niner pass rush honest. He may be worth a look over 3.5 receptions at +106.

Running the ball against the Niners is a rough task. They give up just 3.4 yards per carry. So the air route is more likely.

As far as McCoy is concerned, we like him OVER the totals on both props we listed. But we like the "passing yards" prop a little better.
