What is left of the Florida State Seminoles will take the field as heavy underdogs against the Georgia Bulldogs in this year‘s Orange Bowl.

Well, the nightmare has been continuing for the Florida State Seminoles, as a lot of players have jumped ship. There’s no two ways about it, in that once FSU was denied entry into the four-team college football playoff, the dominoes have fallen.

And as BetOnline patrons have undoubtedly seen, Florida State, which ended the season, undefeated and champions of the Atlantic Coast Conference, have put forth many protests, not to mention getting support from Senator Rick Scott, and other politicos in the state of Florida, but to no avail. They were obviously frustrated that the committee choosing the four teams participating in the playoff consists of many people from the ACC, and they just did not get the support. Therefore, they have begun the process of trying to leave the conference.

Now, they’ve got a lot of opt-outs and transfers, leaving the offense in the hands of Brock Glenn, the freshman, who was not at all productive in the ACC championship.

As we approach the Orange Bowl on Saturday afternoon, the Georgia Bulldogs, which had been the top team in the country all the way up until losing the SEC title game to Alabama, is relatively intact - well, at least as of the standards we’ve seen during this bowl season. Brock Bowers, the All-American tight end, has opted out, because he’s probably going to be a first round NFL draft pick. Offensive tackle Amarius Mims, who will also be drafted high, won't play either.

But the guy who triggers this offense will return. Carson Beck completed 72% of his passes for 3738 yards and 22 touchdowns. And he’s not leaving the school.

As a result, at BetOnline Georgia is a huge favorite in this game, which will be televised by ESPN from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens:

Georgia,Bulldogs -21.5
Florida State Seminoles +21.5

Over 46.5 points -110
Under 46.5 points -110

Georgia has a loaded offense, and it carries a lot of depth. The 1-2 combination in the backfield is very strong, with Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton, combining for 1504 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground. The receivers are more than good enough, and we are waiting the availability of wide receiver Ladd McConkey to add to that force.

It would seem that the best way to attack Georgia's defense would be on the ground, as the Bulldogs allow 3.9 yards per carry, which is a lot for them. But honestly, the Seminoles appear to be way too depleted. Quarterback Jordan Travis was a contender for the Heisman Trophy one noment, and then, the next moment he was out for the season. Tate Rodemaker, who was the backup and had some experience, also got injured prior to the ACC title game and has since announced he is in the transfer portal.

That leaves Glenn in charge. He attempted 21 passes against Louisville in the ACC championship contest, but completed only eight of them, totaling only 55 yards. With the FSU defense able to do the job against the Cardinals, that was enough. But it simply isn’t going to get the job done here. In his brief action this season, Glenn averaged 3.6 yards per attempt. And that kind of thing is going to be shut down by the Georgia secondary.

When you look at the number of players that have opted out of this game for Florida State, it is absolutely staggering. Aside from the people who are on both the offensive and defensive lines, you’ve got wide receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson, along with tight end Jaheim Bell, which takes care of just about all the air attack. Then there is running back Trey Benson, who was by the top rushing threat.

According to the metrics that have been compiled by Pro Football Focus, the respected analytics site, George’s defense is best in the nation in tackling efficiency. So they won’t miss many opportunities.

Yes, the Seminoles, under coach Mike Norvell, have a healthy defensive mentality. But we’re not sure they're capableof being thinned out and remaining competitive. Keep in mind that this Georgia program beat TCU 65–7 in last year‘s championship game. And Kirby Smart has a beef of his own, regarding whether his team should be in the four-team playoff, despite the loss to Alabama. So the Bulldogs may feel they have something to prove. God help FSU if that is the case. We’re going to lay the points.
