The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams will square off in an NFL pre-season game taking place in Honolulu on NFL Network.

The NFL Network is jumping into the NFL pre-season in a big way this week, with three live games. The tail end of the triple-header involves the Dallas Cowboys against the Los Angeles Rams, which is at a neutral site, slated to take place at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, with a 10 PM ET kickoff. You know, customers at BetAnySports get a special treat, as they have the opportunity to place wagers, even after the game has started, using all the great technology that is available through Live Betting Ultra.

The big story for the Cowboys, of course, surrounds the contract hideout on the part of Ezekiel Elliott, who has two years left on his rookie deal, yet wants a huge contract that will pay him along the lines of Todd Gurley. Some players may be out of line making big demands (Melvin Gordon of the Chargers may come to mind), but Elliott has led the NFL in rushing yards per game all three years he's been in the league. And while he's in Cabo San Lucas. he says he's been getting into shape, so he'll be ready if he comes to terms with the club.

Here's the thing, though - the Cowboys are not moving toward him at too rapid a pace. And perhaps part of the reason is that they intend to change the focus of the offense to some extent with new coordinator Kellen Moore (their former backup quarterback). The emphasis may be more and more on the pass, and that mitigates the importance of Elliott - ideally anyway.

The guy who is being pushed by owner/GM Jerry Jones as someone who can pick up some of the slack is rookie Tony Pollard, who has speed to burn and is capable of running from scrimmage, catching passes or returning kicks. And he got treated just like the incumbent starter last week in the 17-9 loss to San Francisco, as he played one series and sat down.

In the NFL pre-season odds that are posted on this game, the Cowboys are laying points:

Dallas Cowboys -3.5 (-105)
Los Angeles Rams +3.5 (-105)

Over 38.5 points (-105)
Under 38.5 points (-105)

Look at those numbers, while you take note that at BetAnySports, you don;t have to ever lay the customary -110 on football games. That's because you can access reduced juice on the website and get more value. You really can't beat that deal!

There is no real quarterback controversy with the Rams. Jared Goff is the starter, and Blake Bortles, who led Jacksonville to the AFC title game two years ago, is content with being his "mentor." Battling it out for the #3 job are Brandon Allen and John Wolford. One of them needs to stand out in one of these pre-season games to stay in the NFL. Providing Gurley with some relief, so he can reduce his risk of having more knee problems, is a priority, and so coach Sean McVay would like to see third-round draft pick Darrell Henderson so something meaningful. Henderson ran six times for 13 yards in a 14-3 loss to the Raiders last week.

McVay generally frowns upon playing his starters in the pre-season. He prefers the more controlled environment of a joint practice. So he is leaving a number of players back in L.A. For example, Jared Goff and Gurley did not make the trip. A number of other starters who traveled to Honolulu will not play.

So you can conclude from this that McVay would care less about winning an exhibition game. Dallas coach Jason Garrett has generally felt the same way, as evidenced by his 11-22-1 mark against the spread in the pre-season (33.3% covers - yikes!). When you have a scenario like this, with both teams being very careful about risking starters, that usually falls a little more on the offensive end. In other words, execution may be poor. Add the jet lag into the deal, plus the fact that these teams know each other a lot more after having some practices together, and those are factors that make offenses suffer, which adds up to a low-scoring game. So we'll go with the UNDER out in Honolulu on Saturday night.
