Sportsradar Expands NBC Partnership With New Data Agreement

Sportradar has secured a data and content agreement with NBC Sports Regional Networks, providing the media outlet with a range of solutions and offerings to enhance viewer engagement.

Sportradar has secured a data and content agreement with NBC Sports Regional Networks, providing the media outlet with a range of solutions and offerings to enhance viewer engagement.

The new agreement builds on the data collection and analytics firm’s existing relationship with NBC Sports Regional Networks, where it most recently produced an alternative betting broadcast of a Chicago Bulls fixture on 22 April.

As a result of the updated partnership, Sportradar will offer its Broadcast Services to enhance live in-game coverage, whilst NBC Sports will work to drive fan engagement by leveraging the firm’s expertise in combining live sports and data.

“Sportradar is excited to expand its relationship with the NBC Sports Regional Networks as they continue to evolve their offerings to further engage the next-generation sports fan,” said Brian Josephs, Vice President, Digital Sport, Sportradar.

“NBC Sports Regional Networks are iconic and have shaped the way that fans watch their favourite teams and athletes. Our technology platform and 360-degree approach enable them to tap into a number of our capabilities and will give them the flexibility they need to create tailored experiences that meet the changing demands and expectations of their audiences.”

NBC Sports will benefit from faster on-screen data updates, gained via access to Sportradar’s live interface, in addition to graphics that will complement live game action.

Furthermore, the media outlet will be able to leverage Sportradar’s specialised league data solutions, such as the Google Cloud-powered MLB Statcast and NBA Advanced Stats, to track deeper and more insightful storylines throughout matches.

The partners intended to utilise these combined products and databases to develop more personalised storytelling based on specific market and fan interests, further maximising audience engagement.

“The NBC Sports Regional Networks are committed to delivering impactful, entertaining and informative live-game experiences, and continuing to experiment and enhance our coverage through technology and innovation,” added Jon Slobotkin, Senior Vice President, Content and Live Programming for NBC Sports Regional Networks.

“Advanced data is a significant component of those efforts, and Sportradar delivers the services and capabilities we need to best serve fans and meet their evolving preferences for how they consume content covering their favourite teams and players.”

The updated deal with NBC represents another step for Sportradar in the US sports data market following its acquisition of Synergy Sports, whilst its international position has been bolstered by takeovers of cricket specialists InteractSport and messaging platform Fresh Eight.
