Connecticut and San Diego State met for the national title game last year. Now they collide for the chance to go the Elite Eight.

Last year at about this time, the UConn Huskies were telling the San Diego State Aztecs who the boss was. But that was a pattern for Connecticut in the NCAA Tournament, where they beat all the teams by double digits.

That was impressive to BetOnline patrons, but will there be some distance between these teams when they meet on Thursday night? The game tips off at 7:39 PM ET at the TD Garden in Boston.

Folks who thought Yale might give SDSU a headache over the weekend were mistaken, as the Aztecs made sure it was never a contest. They were up by 24 at the half and managed to gtive the starters a breather as they breezed to an 85-57 victory. Jaedon LeDee had 26 points and nine rebounds, and he is consistently the guy that opponents have a hard time stopping.

Brian Dutcher's team also hit 13 triples, but despite that they aren't getting muich respect from the oddsmakers. Maybe no one really believes that they will be able to duplicate something like that.

And why shouldn't those oddsmakers have an enpormous amount of respect for the Huskies of Danny Hurley, who have blistered everyone in their path.

They had a virtual walkover against Stetson in their tournament opener (91-52) and then sliced and diced Northwestern 75-58. Tristen Newton had six three-pointers on hsi way to 20, and he added ten assists for a double-double. owning the middle was Donovan Clingan, who had 14 points, 14 rebounds and EIGHT blocked shots.

UConn in ranked second in the nation in offensive efficiency, and eighth in defensive efficiently.

And the Huskies are double-digit favorites in this Sweet Sixteen game:

UConn Huskies -12
San Diego State Aztecs +12

Over 136.5 points -110
Under 136.5 points -110

In last year's title game, San Diego State shot only 32% from the field, while Newton, who is #3 in KenPom's Player of the Year rankings, had 19 points and ten rebounds.

Several of the Aztecs who played in that game are back this season. But the one who will make the biggest difference - that is, if a difference is to be made - is Jaedon LeDee, one of the nation's best, who will try to assert his will in the lane and knows hoe to get to the free throw line.

And SDSU is hard-nosed on the defensive end; while UConn is eighth in the efficiency rankings, the Aztecs are right behind them. Defense has been a tradmark of this team going back to Steve Fisher's tenure.

Keep an eye on Cam Spencer, a 6-4 senior guard who has also played at Rutgers and Loyola-MD. Spencer has connected on 44% triples, 55% two-pointers and 91.5% of free throws, and is #1 in the nation in individual offensive rating.

That's one too many advantages to buck UConn.
