Increased Handles Across the Country
Washington, D.C. is just the latest area to report a substantial increase in handle from September. New Jersey set a national record, becoming the first state to ever eclipse $1 billion in handle, reaching $1,011,114,311 in September. The previous national record was $996.3 million in December 2020, which was also from New Jersey.

Indiana, Iowa and Michigan also reported record handles in September. More states could potentially reach sports betting handle all-time highs.

Michigan’s new mark was $386.3 million, while Indiana’s record is now $355.3 million. Iowa reached a new handle high at $210.4 million.

NFL betting is a major factor in the increase in sports betting across the country. The NFL regular season started in September; the College football betting season is also in full swing.

New highs may continue to be set this fall and winter with the NBA and NHL beginning their seasons in October. College basketball’s return in November should also provide a boost to the overall sports wagering handles.
